It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new blog site

December 1, 2012 | Uncategorized

Welcome to the new and improved version of Not Strictly Spiritual, which combines both my blog and my personal website into one convenient location. I’m so glad you made it through the time-space continuum to arrive at this particular spot — same address, different location. (Key music from the Twilight Zone.)

So what do you think of my new digs? Pretty fab, aren’t they? That has very little to do with me and everything to do with the talented people who helped make my redesigned site possible. Let me introduce you to our cast of characters:

Dennis Poust, long-suffering husband who has to put up with every single wacky thought that pops into my head and comes out of my mouth before I can stop it. Usually this involves me complaining about some piece of technology that is not working as it should, or as I think it should.

Pat Dowd is next on our list. Pat works for Behan Communications in Glens Falls but generously offered to help me get this process started in his free time. He quickly learned that he would have no free time, as I seemed to need all of it. He was key in helping me get past my fears and begin the re-design. He put everything into place so I could get down to the detail work of moving from one place to another. For any Catholic press veterans out there, you may remember Pat’s father, Dick Dowd, who was editor of Crux of the News for many years.

Natalie Reittinger of Sky Blue Creative is our female heroine in this story. I showed up on Natalie’s virtual doorstep with a few vague ideas in hand and asked her to craft a logo for Not Strictly Spiritual. She gave me several great samples. In fact, they were so good I had a really hard time choosing just one. I feel as though she really captured the feel of what I want my blog to be — earthy and honest and always growing and reaching for the Light. If you are interested in Natalie’s design work, send me an email and I’ll connect you. She also operates Jewelry Girl – Iowa, so if you don’t need graphic design, perhaps you need jewelry?

Last but certainly not least is Jeff Young, aka The Catholic Foodie, who descended upon this project seemingly from out of nowhere, offering plug-ins, html, and unending assistance with all the important final details that took this from there to here. He was adapting code while cooking down chicken feet and making a dry roux (Don’t know what a dry roux is? Neither did I. How-to is on his website.) Quite honestly, I think he’s a wizard. There’s simply no other explanation. A very generous, patient, talented, multi-tasking wizard. Please go visit him at The Catholic Foodie. If you need website design, marketing assistance, or instructions on how to peel chicken feet while simultaneously revamping your blog, visit Write Design Media. Sometimes people come into your life and you wonder what you did to deserve such a gift, Jeff (whom I have never met in person but who also contributed to both of my new books) is one of those people.

I am so excited to be launching the re-design of Not Strictly Spiritual right now, on the cusp of Advent and in the midst of so many exciting things in my life. This is really the icing on a cake that seems to get one more fluffy, delicious, unexpected new layer every week. As you may or may not know, I had one book (Everyday Divine) come out two weeks ago; another book (Cravings) will come out on Monday. In addition, I’ve had all sorts of other exciting stuff going on in the periphery — speaking before the U.S. bishops, co-hosting a cable show, doing interviews and radio shows and more. I am blessed beyond measure.

My hope is that this new version of my old blog will make it easier for you to connect with me and that it will provide you with some spiritual inspiration and maybe a laugh or two as you navigate your way through your busy life. I am so grateful to be on this journey with you.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be adding things and refining others here at NSS. I hope you’ll come back regularly to see what’s happening. I’d love to hear from you, so be sure to comment on posts or shoot me an email through the contact bar in the menu. If you’re on Facebook and/or Twitter, please join me there as well.

Peace and All Good,

Mary
