Mary DeTurris Poust Speaker and Leader

Retreat Leader & Speaker

Whether your event will be held at a university, national conference, parish, retreat center, school or other gathering, I will tailor my presentation to the specific needs of your audience and event. My goal when offering retreats, workshops and talks is to connect with the audience and to be guided by the needs of the group rather than any self-imposed agenda.

I am available to give retreats and workshops in any location and for whatever amount of time you need — an hour, a day, a weekend, a week. All of my retreats incorporate practical exercises, from collage-as-prayer and journaling to yoga, guided meditations and mindful eating practices. Online retreat options available upon request.

Yoga & Meditation Teacher

Yoga and meditation are needed more than ever in our chaotic and noisy world. I’ve seen firsthand what these practices can do to alleviate stress, improve mental health, and foster spiritual growth. While I teach on staff at Jai Yoga School in Slingerlands, New York, I am also available to offer private group yoga classes, individual private classes, yoga parties, on-site workplace yoga, or yoga retreats.

I am a 200-hour certified/registered yoga teacher with additional certifications in Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Mindfulness Coaching, and Elemental Meditation. I can offer an array of options, from beginner and gentle classes to slow flow, restorative, or blended class. Meditation can be added to any class or offered as a separate class or series. The options are endless. Just let me know what you need.

Online options available for groups or individuals upon request.

I want to share yoga with others, because I know what it does for me and what it can do for you. I’d love to show you what’s possible. Inner peace is within your reach.

Spiritual Director

Spiritual direction is best defined as “holy listening” in a safe and sacred space, a place where you can grow in your relationship to God and others. As a graduate of the Albany-based Holy Ground Formation Program for Spiritual Directors, my goal is to walk with you on the spiritual path, hold your stories and concerns with reverence, and allow you to explore and deepen your connection to the Divine. Available in-person in NY’s Capital Region or via Zoom anywhere else around the country or world. Reach out via email, and we can talk more, or visit my profile on Spiritual Directors International.

Mindfulness Coach

What is a mindfulness coach? Someone who can help you drill down to your deepest desires and become aware of the storylines and obstacles that tend to pull you off track. Together we will map out a path forward for you, allowing you to zero in our what you most want and need in your life and giving you the tools to address those old limiting beliefs once and for all. We will use mindfulness practices and a carefully crafted strategy to guide you toward your goals. As a certified mindfulness coach, I’d love to help you reach your fullest potential. “Mary DeTurris Poust is… such a pleasure to work with! She’s very organized and is creative with her themes during the planning process, catering to the needs of our audience. Her retreats are very well received by our guests! They leave with new inspiration and tips for incorporating spiritual habits and selfcare into their daily lives. Mary keeps the big picture in mind, while also including small details into her programming that are very meaningful for the guest experience. I would highly recommend that you work with Mary for your next retreat or event!””

Jennifer Murphy
Manager of Retreats & Events, Bon Secours Retreat & Conference Center, Marriottsville, Maryland

“Mary is a wonderful writer who puts her heart and soul into all her columns. They are always thoughtful and challenging.”

John Woods
Editor-in-Chief, Catholic New York Newspaper

“Mary is an amazing yoga instructor. She puts the time in to prepare and make every class unique. She often begins with an inspirational reading from one of her favorite writers or poets, then sings a beautiful chant for us to join in or just listen. Her expertise of yoga positions is vast and she can read the room of yogis and know just how much to push us or ease up. She always makes yoga fun! She has a great sense of humor and even calls herself out if she makes a mistake and we all enjoy a laugh together. She is also very reverent to the yoga experience. ”
